Quilts in Need of Binding and Labels

Yesterday I took out all my quilts that are in need of binding and took pictures of them.  Some have the binding sewn on one side and are awaiting the hand stitching, others have the binding made but not attached, and still others need the binding made.  I apologize for the poor quality of some of the pictures, I am not the best photographer.

One has the binding in progress as I have been working on it slowing and it is a big quilt, queen size.

I have one more side and part of another to finish and this one will be ready to send to the recipient.The label is already embroidered and attached.

This one needs the binding hand stitched and a label added, then it will be done.

Saturday Sampler

This one needs binding made, but first I need to decide what I want to use as binding because I do not have any of the red fabric or the dark blue fabric. I need to see what of the other fabrics used in the quilt I like and have enough of to make the binding out of as this quilt is either king or queen size. I also need to make the label.  I will have to measure it again. This one is a surprise gift for someone.

Bryce's Guitar Quilt

I made this top for my youngest son when he graduated from high school in 2006 and told him it would be quilted and done by the time he graduated from college.  He is taking the long way through college and due to his Army National Guard deployment this coming fall his college is on hold again, so I plan to attach the binding and label and have it ready for him when he returns from Cuba next year. The binding is made and ready to go on, and I have to add the embellishments to the guitars, which will all be done by hand.

One More Time, a Debbie Caffryy Mystery

This quilt has a sister quilt that is also a Debbie Caffrey Mystery that was done using the same main fabric.  I need to hand stitch the binding down and add a label to call it done.

Shoppings Done Wall Hanging

Several years ago I did this class and made extra blocks. I have a lap size quilt, four place mats and two wall hanging of which this is the second one.  I need to hand stitch the binding down and it will be done.

Too Simple

Sorry this one is so dark, the sunlight coming in the window is causing some shadowing. This one is up next for binding, I just need to do the hand stitching and add the label.

Now I need to go dig out the rest of my tops and see what to send off to the quilter next, or pull a small one to quilt myself, and maybe both.

Friends (Spring 2012)

I had a wonderful weekend with my quilting friends. Friday night we meet at the quilt store for our monthly quilting group.  There are four of us who go together, Sally, Jan, Lisa, and I, but the class is actually about 16 ladies who all get together. We pay a small fee to meet there and bring what ever we are working on to sew. There is a teacher who is there to answer questions or help when needed.

This month I brought a Yellow Brick Road I am working on for advice on an inner border.  The quilt is a gift, but I cannot say who it is for a as I do not want to spoil the surprise. I love all the suggestions and help that everyone gives. I had a fun time.

The four of us had already signed up for another session of this class which started Friday night, and three of us have also signed up for the Piecework by Hand class, which meets once a month and is hopefully going to get me moving on my applique projects. I have several in various stages and need to get them done.  Sally, Jan, and I are also doing a marathon in February to get more things done and Sally and I are doing another in March. Sally and I are taking a tote bag class in February, so now I need to find a jelly roll or Bali pop, or go through my stash and cut strips to prep for it.

On Saturday one of my friends picked me up and we made the rounds of the three quilt stores here in town.  We went to Quilt Tree where we each purchased quilt kits that we wanted as it was class sale day and they were discounted 20%. We had already signed up for classes the day sign ups opened, which was a good thing because the classes we wanted were all full by the class sale day. I also bought some new quilting gloves.  Sally bought her two kits and a machine needles.
 
From there we headed over to the newest store in town for class sign ups, The Quilt Zone. We signed up for the February mystery which is called Black Tie, along with another friend, Lisa. Sally and I also signed up for what is called Get'er Done. It is a work session where you bring in those projects you need to get done, or want ideas on so you can get them done. I also signed up to take Basic Drafting for Quilters.  I want to try my hand at drafting a quilt.  I have several designed on paper, but I have to translate them to fabric and to do that I need to learn how to draft a pattern.  I am looking forward to this class.  While we were there I bought the backing for the Yellow Brick Road, and some Aurifil thread, an awl, a book on drafting quilts, and one of the Buggy Barn quilt books.  I love the buggy barn quilt patterns, but I give them my look with bright colors and wild prints. This book has the tractors on the cover.

Once we were done there, we said goodbye to Lisa and headed over to Seams Like Home. None of the classes interested us, but with fabric on sale we had to look around and I found a wonderful fabric to use for applique backgrounds, so bought the 2 7/8 yards that was left on the bolt at 20% off.  I also bought some of the stuff you can use in potholders to keep from burning your hands. I cannot think of the name of the stuff at the moment, and a couple yards of cute Christmas fabric at 40% off. Sally also bought some Christmas fabric.

From there we stopped to grab a bite to eat before heading home.  It was a fun day with one of my favorite people.

When I got home I started reorganizing my sewing room, but that is another story, for another day.

UFQs (Did not post when it was originally written)

I was busy the last couple weeks and moved three UFQs to topsville, finished piecing another quilt that was in progress, pieced backs for two quilts, and started on two other quilt tops.

I am sending two of the tops off to be quilted and when they return they will be bound and then travel to the recipients.

The first is a Blue and Yellow Friendship Star Quilt that I started for myself long ago.  I still need to piece the backing for this one.

The second was from a swap I did several years ago. I call it the Green and Burgundy Quilt. The backing is pieced and it is ready to go.

The third is from a swap I did years and years ago, where I sent out the focus fabric and asked that they use blues, and whites, with some green to make the blocks. I call it the Blue Hoffman Swap Quilt. I still need to piece the backing for this one.

The fourth is called .... and will be going to someone special when it is quilted and bound, so I am not posting a picture of it until I get a picture back of it with its recipient.  I finished the back for it and it is ready to go.

I am still working on finishing up things, especially my UFQs, but I am also working on new things that are gifts, including a couple of baby quilts and a quilt using the Pat Sloan pattern "Coins in the Fountain."  I have the strips pieced, but need to cut the sashing and the fabric strips that go between the pieced rows.  This one is a gift also.

My Ruffled Purse is Done

I finished my ruffles purse in class today. It came put very nice, though sewing around the wooden handles is not fun.

 

I really like how my pursed turned out and am very happy with it.  Next I plan to spray it with Scotch Guard to protect it, before using it.  I think it will be great fun to carry on trips and to use in the summer.

Here is a picture of all the purses which had at least the out side of the bags done.  Two of us totally completed our bags in class, everyone else was very close to finishing.

 

 The two bags on the far right are ones the instructor made.  I love the black and white with line green one.

I am making a second bag with a drawstring closure like the black, white, and lime green one as a gift.  I might make a third one and use these colors as the bags are not that hard to do.  

The worse part is the wooden handles as they get in the way when you are sewing the inside and outside of the purse together as you have to put them on first.  Though the bag is not a fast finish, it is not difficult to make.
